Having odd electrical issues? sometimes this can be down to a sticky ignition barrell, things like locking not working correctly, audio staying switched on, etc..
Try this:
Curing a Sticky ignition barrel
by Mark Thompson
To remove the ignition barrel on the 9-5,
- Remove the cover/transponder reader by slightly twisting it and pulling it up at the same time
It is quite hard to remove but with gentle pressure it will release.
Warning be very careful removing the cover as delicate electronics are housed in the cover and will be damaged with over enthusiasm. - With the cover removed cut a piece of coat hanger/welding rod or similar size wire to approx 6″ in length and turn a right angle at the bottom about 1″ long.
- Look down the O/S of the lock housing and you will see a small hole about 1 1/2″ down, note the off position on the cover and turn the key to that position (first click) and then insert the rod (short end) into the hole about 3/4″ and pull the lock upwards and it should just slide out.
- After removal a generous soaking and working with WD40 plus a lot of wiping to remove the swarf and dust etc that had accumulated in the lock
- Re-fitting is the reverse of removal!
Hi,
I’ve got a 9-5 aero from 2000
The wipers, cigarette lighter and windows get power intermittantly while driving the car.
I suspect something in the ignition. Would what you suggest fix this problem, or is it more in the ignition switch?
TIA
